NOPE Neighbors monthly meeting

Register here to attend the September meeting of NOPE Neighbors (Neighbors Organizing for Power and Equality) Neighbors, an amazing organization founded in 2016 that takes action to (1) flip the presidency, Congress, and statehouses from Republican Red to Democratic Blue and to (2) support local (DC and Montgomery County) issues that threaten our nation’s democracy and social and racial justice. NOPE’s members include friends, neighbors, and colleagues from Chevy Chase, DC, and beyond – who join together to oppose the Trump administration and its allies in Congress.

Women's March/International Women's Day webinar

Women are the majority of voters and the game-changers across movement issues and our political landscape. We are leaders in the fight for climate justice, we are leaders in the fight for immigrant justice, and we have been relentless in the pursuit of our reproductive rights. Now it’s time to come together and discuss what challenges we face in 2020 and how we’re going to work together to confront them.

If you’re ready to build with women, femmes, and allies across the country, register now for our International Women’s Day webinar this Sunday, March 8th at 7pm Eastern / 6pm Central / 4pm Pacific. (click the link to register)

On the webinar, we will be joined by members of the Women’s March strategy team to guide us in conversation about the cultural and political landscape we’re living in today and how we must come together to win in 2020, and elect more women in office.

During the webinar, you’ll have the opportunity to share your ideas for how you want to build with Women’s March and our partners at the local and national level.

Rally for Reproductive Rights

On March 4, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in a case many see as a precursor to taking down Roe v. Wade. We need to show the court--especially Chief Justice John Roberts, who cares deeply about the public perception and legacy of the court--that we are watching and will not let them take away women’s rights.

The case, June Medical Services vs. Russo (formerly called June Medical Services vs. Gee), which challenges a Louisiana law that would decimate abortion access across the state and have massive ramifications across the country. If allowed to take effect, the law would close every abortion clinic in Louisiana but one, pushing abortion out of reach for thousands.

#ShutDownDC Direct Action Training

  • Southeast Neighborhood Library (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

We’ll cover the basics of working together in a small group (affinity groups), moving in the streets together, how to plug in with the action framework, your legal rights and what to do if you’re arrested, and staying healthy and safe in the streets!

If you’re planning on joining us on the streets on this spring, we’d strongly encourage you to make sure that you and the folks you’re planning on hitting the streets with participate in a training. Also, if you haven’t joined an affinity group yet we’ll have some very specific ways to get you plugged in to make a big impact during #ShutDownDC!

The Southeast Library has an accessible entrance on D St. SE. ShutDownDC is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible space. If there is anything that you need to be able to fully participate in this meeting (for example, ASL interpretation, translation or childcare) please email info@ShutDownDC.org

The Jefferson Room
Courtyard Foggy Bottom, Washington DC
515 20th Street, NW

March for Life COUNTER-PROTEST

Every year, the “March for Life” brings the worst anti-abortion turgidity and lies to our nation’s capital and we’re SICK OF IT. Join Abortion Access Front and friends for a counter-protest at the Supreme Court to let these forced birthers and the poor kids they’ve bussed in from out of town know that ROE IS HERE TO STAY.
