Susan Hennessey and Benjamin Wittes | Unmaking the Presidency

  • Politics and Prose 5015 Connecticut Avenue Northwest Washington, DC, 20008 United States (map)

Known for their deeply informed and hard-hitting commentary, Hennessy and Wittes, executive editor and editor in chief of the Lawfare website, respectively, analyze Trump’s presidency from the wider context of the history of the office itself. Basing their arguments on the discrepancy between our traditional expectations of a chief executive and Trump’s performance in the first half of his term, the authors explore the origins of the normative view of the presidency, assess where Trump is following the model of predecessors and where he is behaving in radically new ways, and ask if the damage being inflicted on the office is reversible.
