Very cool treasure trove of old family recipes found

Shrimp Creole is on tap for dinner tonight, and it’s one of my favorite Louisiana recipes; second only to gumbo as far as entrees go. You saute the trinity: bell pepper, onion and celery, and then add some garlic, tomatoes, red pepper or chilis and shrimp. Stew it all together and serve over rice with some crusty French bread on the side to sop up the sauce. Delicious!

Would you like the recipe? If y’all make anything of mine, do let me know!

So, the treasure trove…I called my Nanny this morning and told her about my recent French Silk pie making. She said, hey can you make another. Of course, dear Nanny. So I whipped one up for her and brought it over this afternoon. She mentioned she had her old recipe box in a kitchen cabinet so I rooted around and found it! Aah- so many good, old family recipes and classics; the recipe cards are grease-stained, yellowed, the alphabetizing tabs repaired with Scotch tape. I started rifling through the cards and was transported. So neat. I swore I wouldn’t take it home to DC, but I am going to spend some time reading through everything while I’m home. Some are old-school horrible (ham loaf???) but many are wonderful.
