Superhero name

A while back, Jack was heavily into making up superheroes, and at one point we casually asked Oliver, "what's your superhero name?" Without missing a beat he replied, "Booby BadWoman and I have 85 boobies." Jack and I fell on the floor laughing and today we discovered this drawing of BBW which the kids had made together months ago. www.em-i-lis.com

I especially liked the pictures depicting BBW's breasts from front and overhead angles (top right corner). That was Jack's work; he really thought of everything huh!?

Fresh dinner flatbread, to the paper yay!

It seemed that a stone-cooked flatbread might be a nice way to highlight all the fresh food I've acquired lately: stracchino cheese brought from NY, leftover arugula from the watermelon salad a few nights ago, zucchini blossoms and tomatoes from today. I sauteed some bacon and then in the drippings plus a bit of brown sugar, I caramelized some garlic and radicchio. It all went on the pie and then the stone which I'd preheated in a 475° oven. Hot and quick, a generous shower of grated pecorino and down the hatch, fruit salad on the side. www.em-i-lis.com

And now I can't wait to throw myself into bed with today's paper and a cup of tea.

Farmers market bounty

After three missed Sundays, I was so happy to return to the farmers market this morning. It was gray and rainy, a damp chill in the air, so I suited up in my magenta raincoat and headed off alone. The boys wanted to come with me until T offered the newest MythBusters as an alternative; they jumped on that and regaled me with stories of just how huge a grease fire can be if you throw a certain amount of water on it. As usual, I was utterly inspired and enthused by all the gorgeous produce available. Squash blossoms, squash, corn, tomatoes, berries, okra, peaches... I also bought some sweet Italian sausages and two wonderful cheeses. After my writing class this afternoon, I intend to start creating.
