Good sandwiches rock

A good sandwich is so satisfying, and I've gotta say, the arugula mayo I made and wrote about recently is a fab addition. Yo! The boys and I went to the playground with pals this morning and before we knew it, two hours had passed. They are now like sloths, so perhaps every morning should commence with a 9am playdate outside. It's worth consideration, and if it means I get to catch up with friends too, I'm on board!

Dinner o' pasties and gorgeous summer salad

Can I just tell you how glad I was to remember my batch of frozen pasties tonight? VERY. This afternoon, I took the boys swimming for a while which was fun but extremely tiring despite the fact that I was never in water deeper than 3.5 feet. We met a pal and her darling daughter there, and really, it was stunning to witness boys v. girls at play. She was delicate and relatively calm though she does have an impressive set of lungs (you cute girl, you really do), while my children raced through the fountains at warp speed, pretending the bursts were things which must be cut down, razed!, destroyed!. and periodically cruising over to me at which point they would climb/hang/cling on me to beat sixty. I nearly lost my bathing suit more than once. We then went to the bookstore and finally made it home.

Long story short, beyond roasting some beets for a summer salad, I didn't have much in the way of a plan for dinner, and T was obviously not excited about "just a salad" for his meal. Pasties in the freezer. Amen!

Cod, cantaloupe, quinoa, coconut

Somewhere between saying goodbye to my mom and getting the kids to bed, I lost my sense of humor. I opened a bottle of Chablis in hopes of finding some bit of it, but so far, no dice. Nonetheless, I did turn out a good dinner, and the alliterative aspect of it, per the post title above, is charming. Quinoa with lemon zest, fennel and sultanas, cod roasted with shaved fennel, olives, more lemon, garlic, salt and fennel fronds, and the best cantaloupe we've enjoyed this summer.

I love quinoa, love that each grain looks like a tiny Saturn, love that it's so good for you and is so versatile. And while I don't often buy cod because the poor fish is being fished to death, literally, I saw some rated yellow at Whole Foods today and decided to splurge a bit. I love cod, and this did it justice, although it's unfortunate that the one time I over-salt anything happened to such a delicate meal.

The cantaloupe was ridiculous, and T and I ate a whole half. We're now trying to finagle some room for the magnificent coconut cream pie that's waiting for us in the fridge.

Did y'all hear about the John Sununu-Soledad O'Brien confrontation over Medicaire? She won, and when did he become such a wing-nut? Is NH considering disowning him? When did facts become opinions?

Bill and Real Time return on Friday! Two days hence! Yay!!
