Small Shamrock knew what he was doing

Oliver just woke up with a start, cried that he needed water and had a booger in each nostril, said he needed to puke, went into our bathroom, puked like a champion into the pot, not a spill nor a splatter, threw back some medicine and an OJ chaser like he'd done both a million times, changed his shirt, brushed his teeth, picked up Wrenchie and Tool Sheet, and jumped happily back into bed. It was both awesome and surreal, and once again I thought "damn, that kid was born on St. Patrick's Day for some kind of reason."

Really?

Ok, so Oliver stayed home again today. During this time I had to cancel two appointments, do one with a physician via phone, make a chocolate-almond cake, hear about 400 Word Worlds via recitation, make 800 pancakes to watch a mere 2 be eaten, pick Jack up, drop Jack off, walk the dog, return two injured dining chairs, listen to the youngest men in my life fart more times than was previously known to be humanly possibly and ruminate on just what asparagus does to urine to make it smell that horrible. I changed from definite PJs to "are those PJs?", picked up ten pounds of Florida citrus I'd ordered during a school fundraiser and addressed more holiday cards. Really, it was a full day. I think you'll all agree that if/when Ol heads back to school tomorrow, the silence will be sweet. I mean, just look at these dudes. The Marine now has orange and green toe nails, and number 1 is wearing what? Cute but seriously. www.em-i-lis.com

People, WHAT is going on with Toronto mayor Rob Ford? He is officially beyond eccentric and now firmly in the effed-up department, yes? Do y'all know what I made for dinner? A fantastic, clean-out-the-fridge meal of caramelized cabbage and shallots with caraway, garlic, Meyer lemon zest and loads of pecorino OVER whole wheat spaghetti and WITH taleggio. It.was.so.good. So good that I don't have a picture cuz we ate it so quickly.

Recap, dinner

Ok, here's the scoop: you should definitely whisk together crème fraîche and Dijon mustard, slather it over well-salted, best-quality chicken breasts, toss a couple lardons on top and oven roast until done. I mean, really, that was awesome. Divine! Memorable! www.em-i-lis.com

In the meantime, I heated my Lodge, fried some thick-cut bacon and then seared quickly blanched and then halved Brussels sprouts in the drippings and with the bacon chunks. Also, I haphazardly stretched some thawed puff pastry into a rimmed baking sheet, oiled and truffle-salted it, tossed slivered dried Mission figs/slivered shallots/crumbled blue cheese over that and baked until done. These were great sides. And with the Pinot I'd grabbed when I found my cellar was without white? Well, that was the creme.

People, why is Michele Bachmann still talking? Planned Parenthood is the "LensCrafters of Big Abortion"? Really? There are just no comments that can either explain or dignify that ludicrousness.
