Bourbon

People, I am not going to lie. It is 5:53p and I have just enjoyed my first sip of a Bourbon hot toddy. After the automotive confinement this morning, I was bursting at the seams when we arrived home so I picked up Percy, trimmed all the lariope, went to the market, cleaned out the fridge, bathed Percy, brushed Nutmeg, took more Sudafed, told the kids I had not one ounce of energy left to entertain inane chatter and questions so they best play by themselves, and then I crashed. Now I'm just totally spent and sort of hiding in the kitchen while T manages the mayhem upstairs which, as far as I can tell remotely, involves two wild and naked boys as well as vague threats of time-running-out before... Thank god my parents arrive tomorrow. Thank god for good Bourbon.

Batshit in the car

I am fully insane right now and simply must get out of this car. The kids have not stopped talking or sounding for the whole nearly four hours, T's nose has been bleeding the whole time and, thus, has been plugged with Kleenex since we left, BS sib squabbles abound but not even one is rooted in anything real, my sciatica is acting up in these dreadful seats, and I'm hungry and ready to be in my home. Also I'd now like a nice break from my children. Takers? The only comforting activity is to think of Benedict flipping Cumberbatch.

Icicles, dinner, Sherlock

Have y'all watched Sherlock, the British production shown on BBC from 2010-2012 and starring Benedict Cumberbatch (also in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy) and Martin Freeman (Love, Actually; The Office; The Hobbit)? Except for season 1, episode 2 which was awful, the show is terrific, and I can't wait for it to resume though, SO disappointingly, that's not for another year. Benedict Cumberbatch is beyond superb as are Martin Freeman and most all the supporting cast. We've had a marvelous trip but are looking forward to getting home tomorrow (hopefully with complete ease), seeing Nutmeg (and Percy) and welcoming my parents on New Year's Eve. It's been such fun to have real winter weather- check out these icicles!

Dinner tonight was take-out from a lovely restaurant, Aqueous, and we indulged in this delicious lobster bisque with a lobster-stuffed roulade, some creamed spinach and this iceberg "Cobb," in addition to a French onion soup not really worth mentioning. It's not hard to make an average French onion soup but a stellar one is more a challenge. Unfortunately, tonight's was on the sweet side and fell into the former category. Bygones.
