Big day, satisfying dinner

Wow, did we pack a lot into a half day. After picking the boys up from their ski lesson, we changed, rested for the quickest of moments and headed to the live animal show (the boys and me) and a beer tasting (T). Afterwards, we rendezvoused for an early dinner for the boys and a glass of (much-the-eff-deserved) wine for me, then got ice cream, then a take-it dinner for the grown-ups and then raced home to bathe our dear but stinky kids and throw them into bed. First day out

Par for the course, one's in their bed, one in ours (to be moved) because they just couldn't keep feet/hands/etc to themselves, but they're zonked, and I'm not long for this world tonight either. We all ski tomorrow, and I'm quite looking forward to it. Though our dining has been a disappointment thus far, tonight's dinner was very satisfying! Lobster bisque, a fresh salad with beets/bleu/poached pears and some truffled mac and cheese. I was so freaking hungry so all this really tasted good.

Finally here, on the slopes...kind of

After a sleepless night (I slept with Ol who kept waking up insisting it was morning) and another three well-behaved hours in the car, we reached Nemacolin just before 11. The kids immediately went bananas about the snow and the fact that their room has a TV in it. A quick lunch and then we got them into boots and skis for their first lesson.Y'all, Candid Camera could not have written a funnier episode. The boots don't fit, oh my god mine aren't red, the wind is blowing too hard. T and I are so glad we are not the ones attempting to teach them to ski. We're watching from the lodge and I don't have great long-distance vision but I think the bunny bar lift bonked Jack in the head, knocking him down and his skis off. He is trying so hard but cannot stay up. Oliver is doing fine I believe. This is just priceless, y'all. Priceless! I am totally punchy but this is fun.

Denied

Well, friends, after nearly seven hours on the road in totally sub-par rainy/snowy precipitatory crap, we'd made it only a third of the way to our destination and had to turn around because so many roads were closed and the daylight was quickly evaporating. Back from whence we can nearly 40 miles to the first hotel we called that had availability. The kids were, by and large, extremely good so we went out to eat and are now trying our damnedest to get them to sleep. I feel really grateful to be safe and cozy and to be able to afford this random Plan B. That said, I do hope we reach our destination tomorrow as we were all disappointed to miss a full day today. Oh and the detergent spill of this morning was much more extensive that originally thought so that many of our groceries and goodies are irreparably soaped and both paper bags broke while being carried down the hall. Blarg!
