Roasted delicata with bacon-shallots and pomegranate

I dare say this is one of the prettiest things I've made in some time. The golden rings of roasted delicata squash are enlivened by the pomegranate arils and chopped scallion. I sauteed the shallots in bacon drippings and a splash of white wine, then added the sliced squash, and some broth. That all went into the oven for twenty minutes or so, and then I stirred in some pomegranate molasses before roasting another 5 minutes. In the meantime, I made a yogurt sauce with plain Green yogurt, pomegranate molasses, cinnamon, tahini and salt and let that sit and meld while the squash cooked. A nice lunch for me!

Pom potatoes, Homeland

People, Homeland is SUCH a good show. I really hope it doesn't jump the shark in some dumb way. Last night's new twist was terrific. No spoilers here! Tonight we enjoyed the roasted garlic soup plus this yummy "melted potato" concoction I made with onions, garlic, duck fat and pomegranate molasses. Look how beautifully shellacked this mound o' spuds is. I swear if you'd told me 10 years ago that I would at some point write about cooking with and eating duck fat, I'd have slapped you for lying. Growth! Ain't it something!?

We've seen no throw-up since 4p, and I feel sure my zpack is taking effect. Come on health at my house!

Seriously, it is always something

It was with a lovely sense of "yay, school has resumed, we're back in schedule-action" that I dropped the boys off this morning. I came home, eager to spend a quiet morning addressing holiday cards, clean up some and just relax. Bang.

Two hours in, and I get the call: Oliver is throwing up at school. I raced over to find my little darling hugging the porcelain god, so sweetly and tidily I am proud to say. We headed home by way of CVS to get Gatorade; on the way, he threw up again, tidily again, in a bag. We got cleaned up, he had some Gatorade and toast, watched some Bob (the flipping Builder) and then suddenly declared himself "so much better."

"Ok," said I, "let's run to the market for some bananas and smoothie stuff." No sooner had we left our neighborhood than did projectile vomiting commence. My car looks like Pulp Fiction was filmed inside it.

I cleaned what I could but Ol needed to get back inside so now we're chilling in the bathroom together.
