Must have break

OMG, I have let the kids watch a record amount of tv today. Tom must get home now. I can’t believe he’s leaving first thing tomorrow morning, jack has a half day of school, I have to pack for us all, and we leave the house at 6a Friday for suuuuuch a long day. Do y’all think my ears might fall off on the plane? Do you think my head could really explode?

Melting

Y’all, I know I went on and on about how it was time for summer to get here, but this?? It “feels like” 102 outside, and that is just too darn hot for me. Everything just seems limp and on-the-edge-of-testy. And we’re going to Louisiana on Friday- let me assure you that it is NOT cooler there.

On another note, did you watch the video of Anthony Weiner confessing? I have no idea how he thought any of this would end well for him, and I am SO GLAD to see that his wife has NOT been standing next to him like the good little woman. My ass on that move. Harumph!

Delicious accidental discovery

While making various pie gifts in recent days, I have had some crust dough left over as pecan pie requires no top. In my family, we always use this leftover goodness to make pie crackers (literally, pie crust crackers). Yesterday, I also had a bit of leftover pecan pie filling -no pecans, just the sugary syrup- so I spread it on top of the pie crackers and baked until the glaze looked like hardened shellac. Let me tell you that this was a fortuitous occurrence, and I will now intentionally make these treats. They would be superb as an accompaniment to a dish of rum raisin ice cream or really any ice cream that has vanilla, pecans, cinnamon, etc in it but they are really good on their own too!
