21 April 2020: Daily + Earth Day

Friends, when you receive this, it will be the dawn of the 50th Earth Day. I find this one especially sad as pretty much nothing has improved (yes, acid rain, and clean air and water acts sort of because they’re now being reversed and ozone holes and temperature rises and global climate insanity all around) and many things have gotten worse and/or more irreparable.

50 years. Fifty years of trying to call attention to caring for the only home we have. It breaks my heart. Today’s high was in the 60s and yet a serious freeze alert from both weather channel and local nursery sent me into the yard for a good hour covering everything I’ve grown with everything I own. Our yard looks certifiable: tarps, buckets, garbage bags, frost cloth, cloches, newspaper sleeves, you name it. I hope things survive. No one needs to see life snuffed out on Earth Day and six weeks into quarantine because in America, deaths are already at more than 45,000 and climbing rapidly.

For comparison, best estimates assert that roughly 58,220 Americans died during the TWENTY EFFING YEARS we wasted fighting the Vietnam War. So yeah, 58K in 20 years vs 45K in six weeks, and on April 21 south of the Mason-Dixon we’re girding for a freeze, and New York City is a pandemic epicenter and under tornado watch, and happy fucking Earth Day and General Life Day to you, too.

So, let’s chuckle.

Vroom, vroom, vroomy, vroom, what?

This tennis match is incredible. Rooftop to rooftop?

2 April 2020: My mom's birthday + humor + misc

Today my beautiful mother turned some age between 68 and 70. I won’t tell you more! She and Dad were supposed to be here with us right now, so that they’re not really blows. But, we FaceTimed and sent presents which arrived today (go, USPS), and I’m giving her a huge shoutout here because she is really awesome and has great joie de vivre and is a wonderful friend, cusser, partier, mom, and grandmother, in no particular order.

Today was the same as pretty much all other days: distance learning, corralling the kids, feeding the kids, nagging Oliver, and running yet another load through the dishwasher. Jack mowed three lawns (that kid is really doing well during this quarantine), Ol made it through another full day in pajamas, and I put down another few bags of mulch. I LOVE mulch.

Did y’all know that Georgia’s governor is really dumb? I mean, he cheated to win, so there’s that. But he’s also an ignoramus.

31 March 2020: some humor, more of the other

How in god’s name is it still March? And no, Jack’s money was not returned. :(

I regularly dislike Alexa; even when I turn her off, I am certain she is listening, and the other day I told her to play a famous Queen song, and she played a flipping COVER of it. Almost unforgivable. But this is a solid, and I’ll give her points:

“Alexa, who is the worst president ever?”

Thank you, Elan.

Lotta sent me another hilarious gem: Heading to the hairdresser after quarantine.

And this production by a family of six is inspired!

I gotta say that I continue to be desperately sad and appalled by the way Agent Orange Shitweasel is handling Covid-19. Perhaps you saw the field hospital being set up in Central Park right now. For some reason, that image just gutted me today. I mean, America is one of the wealthiest, most advanced countries in the world, and some our of citizens will die in a tent in a park in the year 2020.

So, yeah. Where are the tests? Where is the protective gear for our frontline workers? Why are Florida’s and Mississippi’s governors and Liberty University’s president and way too many red state, right wing, evangelical people listening to trump rather than scientists and refusing to act in ways that protect their citizens, students, congregants, neighbors, and peers? It’s terrifying, selfish, and gross. It is deplorable. It’s evil. And it comes from the top, from the shameful “leader” we are being weakened by. We need to vote out so many people in November. Please support Blue efforts in all ways that you can.
