Lacking inspo, odd shift from pointer finger

Y'all, Jack has picked up the most unfortunate new habit- whenever he points at something, which isn't infrequently, he does so with his middle finger rather than his index one. All other fingers are curled under. I keep trying to tell him that this is a) just not a great look, and b) might not go over well in some circles, but thus far, it's all been to no avail. Hmm. Today was lovely, but I'm completely pooped now. An afternoon at the park -albeit in this perfect weather- with the boys is like an exercise stint. Lawdy, lawdy. So anyway, I'm lacking a little dinner inspiration, mostly because I've been cleaning up after all the male relocaters in my house- seriously, why do males pick things up and then not return them to their original spots? Why are the scissors not where I'm expecting them? And when you move things all around, why am I expected to mentally keep track of them. No, I don't know where your Tevas/boots/jacket/hat/keychain/pencil/etc are.

Hmmph. Off to figure something out.

Did anyone see the NYT Dining section today? That pear salad with Gorgonzola crostini recipe is in there as well as a scrumptious sounding Berber skillet bread that hails from Morocco. Mmm...

Argh, lusty sungold love

Friends, I've said it before, and I'll say it again: what will I do if ever my children don't go to bed between 6 and 6:30p? I cannot wait to tuck them in. Have mercy! The time between 4:45 and 6p each day is really my least-favorite. On the flip side, there's white wine chilling, and the Sungolds just emerged from the oven, redolent with the anchovy-garlic-caper sauce in which they bathed and mellowed. Delish! Can't wait to schmear some fresh ricotta on the multigrain batard I picked up and then top it all off with a spoonful of the tomatoes. Fab!

Ricotta a'curding, school dispatch

People, a schoolmate of O's BIT him today ON THE CHEEK while they were driving the firetruck on the playground. Say what? He has a round of teethmarks just to the right of his nose and told me "it did hurt when he bit me mom, but now I am ok. I got to play in the sandbox too." I just love kids' resiliency; it's really inspiring sometimes actually. But, I do wish little mr with the biting issues would keep away from my honeypie's face. Good lord. It took all I had to keep from asking O too much about the whole incident as he seemed largely unphased by the whole thing and why traumatize him. On another note completely, O and I got the newest batch of ricotta made while playing some hilarious no-focused game. He ate a scone and pretended to do silly things, I'd respond no, we'd both laugh and intermittently I'd check and tend the ricotta. It's "curding" right now, and after I drain it, I'm going to take myself to the couch to noodle on beet recipes for later.

Although I had my leftover piece of squash pizza from last night plus my last piece of Lebanese flatbread with spinach, I'm still hungry, so for now, sayonara as I head to the fridge to rummage for something else. Is this colder weather hinting to anybody else -as it is me- to go and eat carbs with abandon?
