Delightful one-pot din-din

Tonight was a fairly regular cooking challenge: use only what you already have in your fridge/freezer/pantry. A chicken breast, fresh whey, coconut milk, brown rice, an onion, a bit of aging cauliflower, leftover garbanzo beans, Meyer lemon zest and a few other hints and hollers combined, over stages, in one pot to make a lovely, healthy meal for Mr. T and me. It's fun to experiment, and as long as you adhere to what needs to be cooked when, how long and with what, you'll rarely err. I may have later had too much leftover bread pudding, and now I really must go finish teacher gifts, but goodnight and happy almost-Wednesday to you all! www.em-i-lis.com

Two curiosities

It is my firmest belief that the hairstyle in which a woman's bangs begin back by her ear is a complete, irredeemable travesty. Why, EVER, would you want the responsibility of styling that much short hair forward? It's like two different haircuts battling atop one head. Plus, didn't that style emerge decades ago? I beseech you ladies to update! Also, the woman who careened across one lane and into mine, during rush hour and with handicapped plates on her car, while talking on her phone should probably hang up.

The concert, kumquats!!!

Ok, so four years after I heard Mi Burrito for the first time, I finally have confirmation that is not, in fact, about a burrito but about a donkey. The many Spanish teachers I had are rolling in their graves -figuratively, of course, they're all still with us. But honestly, I should have further considered why the children would be singing about their burritos around the winter holidays. Avocados are not even in season for a guac garnish. In any case, the holiday concert was darling, Ol wore a black bowtie and red pants, Jack and I had almost-matching red plaid shirts on, and everything was festive and sweet.

I also got a pill down Nutmeg which is awesome.

And, look what I bought yesterday!!! KUMQUATS! If you think I've already made ricotta to go along with these once they're candied, you are correct!
