Cauliflower, scones and a baby

Do you know what I got to do this morning? I got to bring fresh blueberry scones and lemon curd to a dear friend who had a baby girl on Thanksgiving Day and then I got to snuggle her perfect little almost-six-days-old bundle for nearly an hour. I was in heaven. Oh my god, give me the babies. I LOVE to hold them. Aargh. I'm all done having my own, but I swear I should set up a baby-holding service because I just adore them. This little nugget has a tiny, bow-shaped mouth, and she is so alert and sweet. Having only had boys who, when new still look slightly buster-like, I'm always amazed by the delicacy of newborn girls. Neither is probably true across the board, but in my experiences, the gals are just daintier than their male counterparts. Aah. Love them all! Last night, to completely change the subject, I roasted cauliflower with cinnamon, orange zest and pomegranate seeds. Nice!

Pom potatoes, Homeland

People, Homeland is SUCH a good show. I really hope it doesn't jump the shark in some dumb way. Last night's new twist was terrific. No spoilers here! Tonight we enjoyed the roasted garlic soup plus this yummy "melted potato" concoction I made with onions, garlic, duck fat and pomegranate molasses. Look how beautifully shellacked this mound o' spuds is. I swear if you'd told me 10 years ago that I would at some point write about cooking with and eating duck fat, I'd have slapped you for lying. Growth! Ain't it something!?

We've seen no throw-up since 4p, and I feel sure my zpack is taking effect. Come on health at my house!

Really gross report, also a stunning/sad one, WWLD?

Did you this recent report on the "dirty truth" about airplane food? Really, really disgusting. Health violations abound: maggots, gnats, filth, rotten food and so forth. I'm literally gagging right now. And this headline posted on Grist a couple weeks back is just really sad -those born during or since April of 1985 have never experienced a colder-than-average month- and further evidence of the climate change no one seems inclined to acknowledge and deal with.

WWLD? Lincoln would deal with this sitch, folks!
