Stewed prunes to be made, helping some rebel groups but not others?

Ok, I am off to make more stewed prunes, a la Molly Wizenberg. If you have the antiquated notion (though, admittedly, accurate) that prunes are only to help your digestive tract, think again and try this recipe. My friends, Christine and Ellen (“these are prunes?!”), would definitely agree!

1 lb pitted prunes

1 orange

1 cinnamon stick

Wash and finely slice orange, rind and all (but throw out any seeds). Put orange slices and any juice you can keep on your cutting board, prunes and cinnamon stick in a saucepan and fill with water just until prunes are covered. Please do not make the mistake of not putting enough water under the assumption that your sauce will be soupy rather than syrupy. Too little water=dry prunes aching for more of the delectable sauce that results. Simmer gently for 35-40 minutes. These are even better the next day, or the next.

While your prunes are a’stewing, perhaps you can contemplate something with me. We supported the Egyptian uprising (passively), put in place a no-fly zone in Libya under the auspice of preventing a mass slaughter, but, as far as I can tell, are not assisting the Bahraini rebels in any way. Because we have a base there and the government is our “friend”? I get that politics and policy is not black and white, but nonetheless, I am having trouble reconciling our myriad reactions to the recent spate of uprisings. Thoughts?
