New findings regarding antibiotics in poultry, Dan Barber article

If the thought of the chicken you eat having their beaks cut off without anesthesia, spending their short and miserable lives confined to cages so small they can't move at all, never seeing the sunlight nor eating what they evolved to, being pumped with antibiotics and their meat, post-slaughter, needing ammonia and chlorine baths to deal with the filth and toxins to which they'd been exposed hasn't quite grossed you out enough, perhaps this newest finding will. Grist reports on new research which found evidence that antibiotic-laden poultry is linked to an increase in drug-resistant bladder infections. NRDC also posted about this report. This article, about the work of chef Dan Barber in his commitment to locavorism, is a very thoughtful (mostly in the words of Barber himself) piece. Note the stats in the penultimate paragraph regarding the incredible output of his small farm!
