This morning, Oliver and I headed out to the farmers market, and having missed it for weeks now because of all our travel, it felt great to be back. Cranberry beans are here! I believe I'm correct in saying that these are also called Borlotti beans. I love their speckled shells, each so unique in coloration and pattern. The inner beans are like that too, and the only disappointment is that they even out to a bland shade of gray when cooked. I love these though, and Jack is a fantastic shelling assistant.
I do love Brussels sprouts and couldn't turn these down. We also bought a last hurrah of yellow grape tomatoes, a load of apples, some gorgeous organic celery and multiple loaves of beautiful bread, as Hurricane Sandy does seem to be approaching. No!! Stay away!
